Cercis chinensis

(Chinese Redbud)  Deciduous tree from woodlands, thickets and slopes of central to southern China; multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree 8-15’ tall and 6-10’ wide.  Spring clusters of rose-purple cover the stems for 2-3 weeks in spring, followed by heart shaped foliage; short bean-like seedpods fall>winter. Easy in average, medium moisture well drained soils, full sun to part shade.  Ours’ gets no summer water.
