Zingiber mioga ‘Hot Lips’

(MIOGA GINGER) Unusual edible plant; this cultivar forms a compact 5’ tall & wide colony of stems pretty green leaves on stems that provide the tropical look of ginger in a temperate garden!  This is a winter dormant perennial. All parts of the plant are edible, but the delicacy is the fall flower buds that form at the base of the plant…in this case yellow with a red lip that are a prized ingredient in Asian noodle dishes.  Easy in loose, fertile soil, enjoys morning sun or light shade and regular moisture.
