Melittis melissophyllum 'Royal Velvet Distinction

(BASTARD BALM)  The name inspired me to write a NICE description! Rare in the U.S., this 24” tall upright perennial has sweetly scented fuzzy foliage.  Charming flowers resembling orchids in early summer are creamy white with ruffled, prominent red purple lips.  Prefers dappled shade and moist well drained soil…nice with hostas, ferns and foxgloves. Well behaved, easy to maintain plant that attracts butterflies.
